I am a PhD candidate and Second Century Endowed Fellow at the University of Southern California. I tend to write and think about race, gender, and art within the political and economic structures that shape them.
Previously, I earned an MA in Film and Media Studies from Columbia University and a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Conducting research at the intersection of Asian American studies, transpacific critique, new media theory, and queer of color critique, I examine how Asian American and Asian diasporic media and performance art rearrange national historiography and cultural memory to dismantle the afterlives and elisions of imperial, wartime, and colonial violence that were established through U.S.-Japan economic trade ties and Asian American assimilation.
I am also completing a graduate certificate in Gender and Sexuality Studies and serve as an Assistant Editor for the Journal of Cinema and Media Studies. My short essays and reviews have appeared in Verge: Studies in Global Asias, Journal of Visual Culture, New Review of Film and Television Studies, among others. I am currently working on publishing an article on Eiko Otake.
